US-based IT firm Oracle is believed to have laid off approximately 12,000 staff in India, with another round of layoffs expected within a month, impacted employees said on Tuesday.
Globally, the company has fired around 30,000 employees.
"In India, around 12,000 employees have been laid off. The company is planning another mass layoff within a month," said two people impacted by the retrenchment, including one from the company's human resource department.
The company has approximately 30,000 employees in India, including those affected by the layoffs.
Oracle declined to comment on the development.
Oracle, in an email sent to staff, said the employees were informed about certain organisational changes and "because of these changes, a decision has been taken to streamline the operations, and as a result, unfortunately, the position you currently hold will become redundant".

Housing sales in Delhi-NCR declined 17 per cent quarter-on-quarter to nearly 16,000 units in the January-March period amid negative sentiments due to the West Asia conflict, according to Anarock.
However, the demand rose 44 per cent on an annual basis following the low base effect.
Real estate consultant Anarock data showed that housing sales in Delhi-NCR stood at 15,985 units during the current January-March period, down 17 per cent from 19,250 units in the previous quarter.
Sales in Delhi-NCR increased 44 per cent from 11,120 units in the January-March period of the last year.
Anarock Chairman Anuj Puri noted that the long-term fundamentals of India's residential segment remain strong, but the "short-term tremors of the Iran War were clearly visible in the first quarter".

Planters' body, Tea Association of India (TAI), has urged the Assam government to address its concerns regarding the transfer of housing line land to workers under a new amended law.
While appreciating the government's intent to provide land patta to the tea garden workers, it called for clear guidelines in the matter so that the "administrative" concerns are taken care of.
Speaking at the 37th Biennial General Meeting of TAI, Assam Branch, here on Saturday, TAI president Shailja Mehta said the concerns of the industry should be considered before implementation of the new law.
She pointed out that in many cases, tea garden land is mortgaged as collateral with banks, and transfer may create financial and legal complications.
Further, the Land Ceiling Act applies only to land and not to company-built assets such as labour quarters.

The government has stepped up measures to secure fuel and gas supplies amid the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, while urging citizens to avoid panic buying as sporadic rushes were reported at fuel stations.
In a statement, giving an update on developments following the war in West Asia, the oil ministry said refineries are operating at high capacity with adequate crude inventories, and stocks of petrol and diesel remain sufficient nationwide. Retail outlets are functioning normally, even as rumours triggered temporary spikes in demand in some states.
"There were certain rumours, which led to panic buying at some retail outlets in a few states, resulting in unusually high sales and heavy crowding at retail outlets. However, it is informed that there are adequate stocks of petrol and diesel available at all petrol pumps in the country," it said.
To boost domestic availability, the government has cut excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 10 per litre and imposed export levies of Rs .
